We will hear more details about their daily business activities later.
Instead, let me ask Mr. Tajima about the comic Kabachitare which appears
serially in Weekly Morning, published by Kodansha. An administrative
scrivener appears as one of the characters. You were the originator of this
comic, but you were also involved in drafting the story line for Naniwa
Kinyudo, weren't you?
|
Tajima
Yes, I was involved in drafting the maritime affairs story line for
Naniwa Kinyudo. In the last three volumes of the comic (Volumes 17, 18 and
19), I helped write the segments where a marine procedure commission agent
appeared in the story.
I believe that this was made into a television program. Ayumi Ishida
played the role of the marine procedure commission agent. The main
character was played by Masahiro Nakai. Kaoru Kobayashi was impressive in
his role.
|
Tajima
I think Ken Ogata also appeared in the series.
We had to beg Mr. Tajima to be here today. I heard that you were
preparing your text until four in the morning yesterday.
|
Shiota
I thought that only happened in television.
Tajima
No, this is the reality for cartoonists. We are locked up in a hotel in
Ikebukuro. We are stuck in the room with one person in charge of us. Then
we go through hell !!!
Until now, the qualifications to become an administrative scrivener were
not seen by most people as very significant. However, since Kabachitare, I
think the profession has become much better understood throughout society.
Posters hanging in trains state that 'without having compassion, one cannot
be a community-based lawyer.' I've also heard that you received a telephone
call from the Japan Federation of Administrative Scriveners thanking you
for your efforts.
|
Tajima
Yes, I received a call from the chairman of the Federation.
On the one hand, there were voices welcoming the effort. However, on
the other hand, there were voices criticizing it as too dramatic.
|
Tajima
One of the directors of the Japan Federation of Administrative
Scriveners scolded us for two hours on one episode, saying 'please be
cautious on how you handle the situation since many people are viewing this
program.'
Has anything changed for you, Mr. Shiota, since Kabachitare?
|
Shiota
Yes, it has. The public saw administrative scriveners as involved in
the field of rights and obligations. Yet, through Kabachitare, they now
understand that our work is wide ranging. At the same time, we are now
recognized as being of assistance to society.
Thank you for saying that.
