Washington D.C. Report
The Role of Attorneys in American Corporations and Government

As it is often said, in Washington D.C., if you throw handful of stones, you are more than likely to hit a lawyer. Currently, Washington D.C. has 39,144 lawyers out of a population of 580,000. In other words, one person out of fifteen is a lawyer. This is because Washington D.C. is the center of politics. Not only does it have the three branches of the U.S. government, but additionally, it acts as the center for support organizations, lobbying groups, embassies and consulates as well as international organizations. In all these organizations and institutions, the most popular occupation is a lawyer. To understand their work, I interviewed three Washington lawyers to ascertain how they deal with their competitors and clients in an environment which has become increasingly globalized, much as a result of changes in the U.S. legal system.
